How DPF Works

Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) are essential for light-duty trucks, helping to reduce the environmental impact of diesel combustion. These filters work by capturing particulate matter from the exhaust gases produced by the engine, ensuring that harmful pollutants are not released into the atmosphere.

As exhaust gases enter the DPF, they pass through a porous substrate that traps soot and particulates. When the filter becomes saturated with particulates, it initiates a regeneration cycle. This cycle can happen passively or actively, depending on driving conditions. In active regeneration, the engine management system injects fuel into the exhaust stream to raise the temperature, allowing the soot to burn off and keep the filter clear.
